Interview Secrets To Give You Confidence

First impressions DO count!  And you don't have long to make this impression (approximately 30 seconds to be accurate) so keep this in mind when attending job interviews.

Be Prepared!
Research the company you are interviewing with:

  • Find out the company values and mission statement
  • Impress by referring to relevant information during the interview process
  • Work out your transport to and from the office - ahead of time!
  • Why do you want to work for them?

Practice your interview responses and work examples to potential questions, here are some common questions:

  • Tell us about yourself?
  • Why should we hire you?
  • Why did you leave your last role? / Looking to leave?
  • What are your values, skills, strengths, weaknesses, attitudes etc?
  • How do you cope with pressure/stress?
  • Describe a situation when…? (You did not meet deadlines/you exceeded expectations/had a significant achievement etc)
  • Where will you be in 5 years?

Prepare some questions of your own to demonstrate your interest and understanding:

  • Why has the position become available?
  • Is there a detailed position description available?
  • Company culture and future directions?

Present Yourself!
Remember that first impression!  It's ok to be nervous - most people are - act confident, even if you don't feel that way.

  • Dress professionally for the job environment but make sure you are comfortable too!  A suit is recommended for most corporate environments.
  • Arrive 5 - 10 minutes before interview time so you are not rushed.
  • SMILE
  • When you first meet your interviewer, make sure you stand up, smile, make eye contact and offer a firm handshake.
  • Stop fidgeting, especially during the interview.
  • Be aware of your body language - focus on maintaining good, open posture
